Professor Hill Gaston FMedSci

Professor Hill Gaston is Professor of Rheumatology in the University of Cambridge. Hill Gaston’s research has focused on reactive arthritis which is a frequent and potentially disabling disorder that follows certain infections. He has characterised T cell clones from these patients and shown that these are specific for bacterial heat-shock protein fragments taken from synovial fluid. His observations provide strong evidence for the role of T cells recognising heat-shock proteins of bacteria as the cause of recurrent and chronic arthritis.
