Professor Helen Lachmann FMedSci
Helen Lachmann is Professor of Medicine & Honorary Consultant in Amyloidosis at University College London and has an outstanding record as a clinician scientist. She is internationally recognised for her transformative contributions to the management of patients with autoinflammatory diseases, a hitherto neglected patient group. She has driven the development of high-quality care across the UK and beyond by setting up an internationally recognised national treatment service, developing validated diagnostic and treatment pathways, virtually eliminating disease associated damage including the life-threatening risk of amyloidosis in these patients. Thanks to her efforts and leadership, these conditions can now be managed such that affected individuals have near-normal lives including socioeconomic and fertility outcomes.
