Professor Guy Thwaites MBE FMedSci
Guy Thwaites is Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Oxford and Director of the Wellcome Trust Major Overseas Research Program in Vietnam. He has an outstanding international reputation as a physician-microbiologist whose research has defined the management of globally important infectious diseases. Directing a 450-person multi-disciplinary research programme across Vietnam, Nepal, and Indonesia has placed him at the forefront of international academic leadership in infectious diseases and global health. Professor Thwaites also founded the United Kingdom Clinical Infection Research Group, with the aim of bringing NHS infection specialists together to address questions which mattered to them and their patients through clinical trials.
