George Hanna is Head of Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London. In the field of volatile organic compounds, he is a world-leading authority advancing this emerging field and translating it into clinical practice. He developed the Dundee Psychomotor Dexterity Tester, predating by a decade, other virtual-reality simulators. He pioneered assessment of surgical proficiency and safety of introducing new technologies into clinical practice, exemplified by the Laparoscopic National Training programme for consultant surgeons, the first initiative of its kind world-wide that improved morbidity and mortality in England and is currently adopted by multiple surgical specialities in Europe, USA, and Australasia.
