Director
Institute of Translational Genomics
Elected Fellow 2020
Eleftheria Zeggini is the Director of the Institute of Translational Genomics, Helmholtz Centre, Munich. She is an international leader in genome-wide association studies of complex human disease. Her research has been far reaching in deciphering the genetic aetiology of complex diseases such as type 2 diabetes. She has published ground-breaking GWAS results not only for T2D, but also for obesity and osteoarthritis. Professor Zeggini has taken leadership positions on whole genome sequence based studies of complex medically relevant traits, on genomic studies of African genomes, and of isolated European populations. She has committed time and effort to developing programmes for nurturing the next generation of researchers.
