Professor David Werring FMedSci
David Werring is Professor of Clinical Neurology at University College London. He is recognised internationally as an expert in stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. His important research contributions have advanced diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment particularly in stroke associated with small haemorrhages secondary to disease of the small brain blood vessels which are incorporated in national and international guidelines. He has definitively demonstrated prognostic significance of cerebral microbleeds, showing that in people with ischaemic stroke they are associated with a higher risk of cerebral ischaemia than intracranial bleeding; findings which are included in national clinical guidelines.
He has also successfully led large collaborative studies and trials, and international collaborative groups.
