Danail Stoyanov, Professor of Robot Vision at University College London, is a research leader in the rapidly expanding area of AI and robotics applied to surgical and interventional technologies. He has been responsible for several paradigm shifting innovations in surgical technology including 3D reconstruction of the surgical scene from laparoscopes and automated recording and assessment of surgical workflows for quality assurance and surgical training.
He is Chief Scientist of the surgical AI technology platform at Digital Surgery Ltd that supports the company’s surgical operating room products. He also co-founded Odin Vision Ltd whose technology on automated polyp detection will potentially be installed in all Olympus’s colonoscopy suites, providing benefit to millions of patients and predicted to save thousands of patients’ lives per annum through earlier detection of bowel cancer.
