Professor Colin Espie FMedSci
Colin Espie is Professor of Sleep Medicine at the University of Oxford and is a world-leading clinical psychologist. His innovative research on insomnia treatment has had a major impact upon everyday clinical practice, pioneering novel interventions for evidence-based care. Since publishing the world’s first placebo-controlled trial of cognitive-behavioural treatment in patients with insomnia, his subsequent research has demonstrated that CBT is effective across diverse clinical settings. He also developed a digital CBT programme resulting in widespread adoption in healthcare.
He was spokesperson for Public Health England and Mental Health Foundation campaigns on sleep and contributed expert evidence to UK Parliamentary briefings on sleep and health. He has also written acclaimed sleep medicine textbooks, as well as several accessible books on sleep for the general public.
