Professor Christoph Tang FMedSci

Christoph Tang is Professor of infectious diseases at Imperial College London. He has a distinguished track record of excellent research in infectious diseases through his pioneering work on the characterisation of microbial virulence determinants, and development of novel vaccine strategies. He developed new genetic methods for genome wide mutagenesis of the important human pathogen, Neisseria meningitidis. This led to the discovery of nearly 80 genes necessary for virulence. His work at the interface of host and pathogen has provided fundamental insights into virulence mechanisms, and he has consistently translated his findings into ways to combat bacterial disease.
