Professor Charles Coombes FMedSci

Professor Charles Coombes is Professor of Medical Oncology and Head of the Department of Cancer Medicine at Imperial College London. He has been responsible for important advances in our understanding of the biology and natural history of breast cancer. His work on endocrine therapy and breast cancer has had important clinical implications. He was the first to show that a specific inhibitor of the enzyme aromatase could be used for the treatment of breast cancer, leading to the development of a new generation of drugs for breast cancer treatment.
