Professor Andrew King FRS FMedSci

Andrew King is Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow and Professor of Neurophysiology at the University of Oxford. He has provided the first evidence for a map of auditory space in the mammalian brain, and revealed how visual and auditory signals interact to drive neural responses. He determined the relative importance of acoustical and neural factors in the development of the auditory space map, showed that this process is guided by sensory experience, and identified the circuits by which visual signals instruct the maturation of auditory responses. His research also holds out the promise of generating real advances in the treatment and rehabilitation of the hearing impaired.
