Professor Alastair Denniston FMedSci
Alastair Denniston, Professor of Regulatory Science and Innovation at the University of Birmingham, brings expertise in regulatory science, oculomics and AI implementation in healthcare. He is a champion of the emergent discipline of regulatory science, and an international leader in bringing the scientific lens to the process of innovation and regulation in health and the life sciences. He coined the term ‘oculomics’ to describe how ophthalmic imaging supported by AI could be used to identify retinal signatures that were predictors of present or future systemic disease. He is internationally recognised for his work in creating evidence-based approaches to the evaluation, regulation and implementation of AI health technologies, ensuring that the products that come through to patients are effective, safe and equitable.
