Cell therapy, liver regeneration, metabolic dysfunction associated-steatotic fatty liver disease
Phil Newsome, Professor of Hepatology at King’s College London, is an international leader in the fields of cell therapy and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
His scientific discoveries include mechanisms underpinning differentiation of human embryonic stem cells to hepatocytes and work delineating mechanisms underpinning migration of haematopoietic stem and mesenchymal stromal cells to the injured liver wherein he demonstrated their anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory effects.
He is an international key opinion leader for NAFLD, a major liver disease, having published seminal data on prevalence/severity in primary care and co-ordinated an international collaboration that unequivocally established the link between liver fibrosis and clinical outcomes.
