Professor Matthew Higgins
Matt Higgins is E. P. Abraham Chair of Structural Biology at the University of Oxford. He is a pioneer in uncovering molecular mechanisms that underlie essential host-parasite interactions in structural biology detail and in applying these insights to guide rational therapeutic design. He collaborates broadly to enable these insights and leads studies that span from molecule to cell to therapeutic. His discoveries have revealed how parasite surface protein families function, how parasites modulate human immunity, and how malaria parasites invade erythrocytes. His studies have had impact in immunology showing how the most effective neutralising antibodies function. These structural insights have been applied to design rational malaria vaccine immunogens.
