Liam Grover is Professor of Biomaterials Science at the University of Birmingham. He is an outstanding biomaterials-scientist, with a proven ability to transition the basic science findings of his work right through to clinical application.
He has demonstrated that bone formation may be controlled through the delivery of condensed phosphates, enabling his team to develop interventions that can drive bone formation, or prevent and even reverse pathological mineralisation. At the beginning of the pandemic, his labs were modified to allow for the development of new technologies to manage the impacts of COVID 19. From this time, his lab created a novel approach to the production of bespoke face masks and a nasal spray for blocking infection.
