Professor Keith Fox is the Duke of Edinburgh Professor of Cardiology at the University of Edinburgh. His major contributions to understanding the thrombotic mechanisms of cardiovascular disease have had important clinical ramifications. He designed the experimental model and carried out the first animal experiments demonstrating the potential of tissue plasminogen activator and followed this up by demonstrating its value for coronary thrombolysis in humans. He has masterminded and spearheaded definitive clinical trials demonstrating the value of the use of tPA.
