Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University Hospital of South Manchester, Jørgen Vestbo is a world-leading clinical academic in respiratory medicine. He has been an outstanding President of the European Respiratory Society, and is currently advisor to the WHO General Secretary on non-communicable disease. He chaired the GOLD scientific committee, whose 2011 and 2017 COPD guidelines have been downloaded over one million times. |His research has changed our thinking on the epidemiology of COPD. His work has laid the platform for many further epidemiological studies which have confirmed his findings, and provided a basis for interventions for patient benefit.
