Professor Jo Hajnal FREng FMedSci
Joseph Hajnal, Professor of Imaging Science at King’s College London, has significantly advanced medical science through a series of discoveries which have progressed the basic science of imaging and created new clinical tools that are used worldwide. He pioneered the use of precise mathematical alignment of multiple images to detect changes in serial brain MR images, becoming one of the early implementers of Machine Learning for image analysis. He has also successfully applied Artificial Intelligence methods to MR and more recently to pregnancy ultrasound imaging. Professor Hajnal also has longstanding and deep-rooted links to industry where, alongside industrial partners, he has developed the world-first neonatal MR scanner, one of many world-first scanning systems.
