James Boardman is Professor of Neonatal Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. A rising star of Neonatal Medicine with an international reputation for careful, productive and innovative research into the problems suffered by the 10% of humans who are born preterm. At Edinburgh he has established a major research group based around an extremely well organised and planned cohort study which is already providing valuable information on the nature and causes of preterm brain injury.
He was elected as the President of the Neonatal Society, the premier organisation for scientific and academic neonatology, and his international reputation is evidenced by his appointment as principal editor of the major US textbook of neonatology.
