Professor James Lee FMedSci

James Lee, a Clinician Scientist Group Leader at the Francis Crick Institute, has made outstanding contributions to the genetics of common immune-mediated diseases. He has emerged as a world leader in translating common genetic associations into an understanding of disease mechanisms, pioneering methods to identify causal variants and genes, identifying their biological effects through elegant perturbation studies in primary immune cells. His work with disease charities has helped patients and their families gain a better understanding of their conditions, and his advocacy work to policymakers, including to the GMC on behalf of clinician scientists and to the House of Lords on behalf of patients with IBD, has helped raise awareness of key challenges facing these groups.
