Sarah Harper is the Clore Professor of Gerontology at the University of Oxford. She is one of Britain’s leading gerontologists and combines quantitative and qualitative methodologies to explore the implications of demographic ageing on individuals and societies. She has advanced understanding of the role of life course factors in healthy ageing by exploring how social and economic drivers influence health and well-being, with a particular emphasis on transitions. Her contribution extends to widespread capacity building in gerontology, though the establishment and Directorship of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, providing opportunities for research, education, and dissemination to cohorts of young scholars from the global south. She also has input into policy, advising Asian and European governments on population ageing.
