Ziad Mallat is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Cambridge. He is an outstanding clinician scientist who has made major contributions to cardiovascular immunology. He identified critical counter-regulatory immune mechanisms that tame the development and progression of cardiovascular disease. His work paved the way for the development of vaccination strategies that boost protective immunity to combat atherosclerosis. He also undertook innovative research into the pathophysiology of aortic aneurysms, opening new research avenues. Professor Mallat has made sustained and internationally recognised contributions to our understanding of cardiovascular immunology and atherosclerotic disease and translated these novel findings into clinical trials.
