Ed Byrne is President and Principal at King’s College London. He has had two careers, one in clinical academia and the other in health and university leadership. He led research that opened up the mitochondrial pathology field unravelling the significance of variation of the mitochondrial genome in neuro-degeneration. He played a key role in the establishment of the Crick Institute and served as Vice Chancellor of Monash University consolidating its position as one of the world's top medical research universities. He is a life Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Science which he helped found and has received Australia's highest civilian honours.
