Ruth Plummer, Professor of Experimental Cancer Medicine at Newcastle University, has a world leading reputation in the design and delivery of early phase clinical trials. She has taken many new cancer drugs into the clinic to determine their optimal dose, which have then become standard treatments with proven patient benefit. Professor Plummer leads the CRUK Newcastle Cancer Centre and Newcastle Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, having established the early phase trials unit as one of the three most active in the UK. The business planning and management skills she has developed to run this unit led to her being awarded the inaugural STEM category North East Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in 2015.
