Philip Bejon, Director of the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme, is one of the UK’s most outstanding clinician scientists in global health. The 800 strong KEMRI Programme is one of Africa’s premier research institutions and one of the largest UK investments in African health research. His early work made important contributions to immunological studies of antibody and cell-mediated immunity to malaria and he is internationally recognised for his leadership role in the malaria vaccine field. Beyond malaria, he has led the team conducting Phase I trials on an Ebola vaccine in Kenya, providing the critical safety data in an African population, and trials on new approaches to yellow fever vaccination.
