Paul Emery is the Director of the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine and has played a critical role in the evolving management of autoimmune inflammatory disorders, pioneering early intervention and biologic therapeutics in Rheumatology. Further innovations include introducing modern medical imaging as validated outcome tools in rheumatology research and clinical practice. Through his international and national leadership, he has exerted substantial national, European and global policy influence, best exemplified by his chairmanship of a meeting of EU ministers leading directly to groundbreaking legislation for musculoskeletal complaints. Emery also excels in mentorship and has influenced the careers of many trainees, ten of whom now occupy Professorial appointments.
