Melanie Davies, Professor of Diabetes Medicine at the University of Leicester, has been assessed as one of the top ten global diabetes experts. Her work has significantly impacted clinical care, including international clinical guidelines, notably in the use of insulin and GLP-1 therapy. The diabetes risk score developed by her team has been implemented in collaboration with Diabetes UK and is recommended by Public Health England. Professor Davies led the largest collaborative RCT in Diabetes Education Self-Management; this programme has been adopted by 50% of UK primary care organisations, and has been rolled out in Holland, Australia, sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.
