Jaspal Kooner is an interventional cardiologist at Imperial College, London. He established the London Life Sciences Population study, known as LOLIPOP, which has recruited over 30,000 Indian Asian and European participants. His research has led to the discovery of novel genetic variants underlying coronary heart disease, type-2 diabetes, obesity, and other disorders highly prevalent among Indian Asians. His current work is aimed at developing arrays of the newly discovered Indian Asian specific variants to inform genetic mechanisms and pathways underlying the increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type II diabetes in Indian Asians.
