Liz Corbett is Professor of Tropical Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine & Malawi Research Programme. She has made major contributions to the control of tuberculosis in sub-Saharan Africa undertaking a number of innovative studies which have challenged accepted views on the optimum ways of controlling tuberculosis in Africa. Another major research contribution has been her demonstration of the feasibility of self-testing for HIV in African populations. Her studies in this area have had a major impact on the acceptability and uptake of this approach to HIV control.
