Professor Anderton is Professor of Neuroscience at King’sCollege London. He is one of Britain’s most distinguished neuroscientists and works on neurodegenerative disorders. His career has progressed from an initial interest in the cytoskeleton to the pathological involvement of the neuronal cytoskeleton in neurodegenerative diseases and exploration of fundamental mechanisms of Neurodegeneration. He has made an important contribution to a number of fundamental advances, including the role of tau protein in Alzheimer’s disease and the part played by glycogen synthase kinase-3 in its abnormal phosphorylation. Professor Anderton was recently appointed as Director of a New MRC Centre for Neurodegeneration research. I am delighted to welcome him to the Fellowship of our academy.
