Andrew Waters is Professor of Molecular and Developmental Parasitology at the University of Glasgow. He has an exceptional track record in his research on malaria parasites, as well as sustained leadership in the broader field of parasitology and global health. He is a pioneer of molecular and genetic analysis, having originated pivotal transgenic technologies in this system, and has been the central figure in major malaria research initiatives. Since taking over as Director of the Wellcome Centre for Molecular Parasitology, he has expanded its remit in areas such as cerebral malaria in African children and novel treatments for a range of human diseases.
