Nita Forouhi, Professor of Population Health and Nutrition at the University of Cambridge, is an internationally eminent physician scientist whose research into the nutritional epidemiology of cardiometabolic diseases has had major translational impact. By contributing evidence for public health action on sugar reduction, a UK ‘sugar tax’ and global dietary guidance for fat and artificial sweetener consumption, her research has had real-world impact in controversial debates. Professor Forouhi’s research in health inequalities has defined different adiposity thresholds affecting health, informing ethnically adaptive UK NICE guidelines for African-Caribbean and Asian communities. She has demonstrated a long-standing, deep-seated commitment to greater equality, diversity, inclusivity and to team science.
