Masud Husain is Professor of Clinical Neurology at the Institute of Cognitive Science & Institute of Neurology at UCL, and works in the field of behavioural neurology. He has studied stroke patients with focal cortical lesions and developed novel behavioural paradigms with which to test their deficits. Using this approach he has identified an array of cognitive abnormalities in patients with spatial neglect syndrome due to parietal lobe lesions. He has also made a major contribution to our understanding of the function of the medial frontal lobe, helping to define the role of the supplementary motor areas in humans and the consequences of damaging them. The importance of his clinical research through the award of the Elizabeth Warrington Prize by the British Neuropsychological Society and the Graham Bull Prize in Clinical Science of the Royal College of Physicians. We now welcome him to the Academy of Medical Sciences.
