Marta Zlatic is a Programme Leader at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology. She has pioneered an innovative approach that combines comprehensive brain-wide analysis of structure and function in the tractable genetic model system, the Drosophila larva and generated important tools and resources for bridging the gap between behaviour, circuits, neurons, and genes and discovered fundamental principles governing circuit development and function. Her lab has published the first complete synaptic resolution connectivity map of an insect brain. This landmark study provides a comprehensive and detailed analysis of connection types, neuron types and circuit motifs in the entire brain and is a major milestone for understanding brain computations and how they generate behaviour.
