Professor of Global Environmental Health at Imperial College London, Majid Ezzati’s innovative interdisciplinary research has fundamentally advanced our knowledge of the global patterns and effects of preventable risk factors, leading to major influences on national and global disease prevention policies. His work on air pollution in developing countries led to the first-ever exposure-response relationship for biomass smoke and childhood pneumonia. He has led the Comparative Risk Assessment component of the Global Burden of Disease Study whose methods are now the standard approach for measuring the health consequences of risk factors. His recent work on obesity and cardio-metabolic risks has revealed the complex patterns and trends of these risk factors in different countries.
