Linda Bauld, Bruce and John Usher Chair in Public Health at The University of Edinburgh, has made outstanding contributions to advancing public health internationally. She holds the UK’s oldest chair of public health and is the first female to hold this position in its 120-year history. Her research has directly informed UK tobacco control policies, including smoke-free legislation, smoking cessation services, standardised tobacco packaging, e-cigarettes and the design of services to help pregnant smokers to quit. Linda has a long-standing commitment to research translation, evidenced by her advisory positions and secondments, including as former Scientific Adviser to the UK government on tobacco control and currently as the Scottish government’s Chief Social Policy Adviser.
