Jesper Svejstrup, Senior Group Leader at the Francis Crick Institute, is an outstanding biochemist and cell biologist having made outstanding contributions to our understanding of DNA repair and transcription in health and disease. He found that transcription factor TFIIH is important not only for transcription, but also for repair, leading to Science naming DNA repair their ‘Molecule of the Year’. |Professor Svejstrup uses a multi-disciplinary approach, employing an unusual mixture of state-of-the-art biochemical, cell biological, informatics and genetic approaches. His work is now entirely focused on mammalian cells, with results frequently resulting in new understanding of neurodegenerative disease and cancer.
