Jane McKeating is Professor of Molecular Virology at the University of Oxford and is recognised for her work on viral tropism and defining the molecular and cellular determinants of early infection events. She has published seminal papers on HIV-1 entry pathways, hepatitis C virus tropism and evasion of host immune responses, and polarised 3D liver models to study hepatitis viruses. Her work has expanded to study hepatitis B virus replication and oncogenesis, providing an opportunity to compare the replication strategies of these liver-tropic viruses and their underlying pathologies. Viral chronobiology is emerging as a new discipline and will provide a wealth of new pathways that regulate virus infection.
