Sharon Tooze, Senior Scientist at the Francis Crick Institute, has made seminal contributions to the cell biology of vesicle trafficking and has been a pioneer contributor to the burgeoning field of Autophagy. Her work has lead the way in terms of unravelling the molecular mechanisms of Autophagy, through identification of essential proteins, and new positive and negative regulators. She is co-founder and co-chair of the steering committee of Autophagy UK. Dr Tooze has been an effective mentor to numerous young investigators, particularly women, and was asked to participate in the EU-sponsored LIBRA Career Development programme aimed at achieving gender equality in academia.
