Dion Morton is Barling Chair of Surgery at the University of Birmingham. His work has been transformative for surgical research and practice, particularly in colorectal cancer treatment. As the Director of Clinical Research at the Royal College of Surgeons, he made important contributions to the fourfold increase in multicentre surgical trials and his leadership resulted in the establishment of 12 national surgical specialty research leads and 5 core-funded RCS trials centres, helping to reshape the landscape of surgical research in the UK. His impact extends globally through his co-directorship of the NIHR Global Health Research Unit in Surgery with the unit's EAGLE trial spanning 370 hospitals across 5 continents, revolutionizing surgical education and practice in anastomosis safety.
