Charlotte Coles is Professor of Breast Cancer Clinical Oncology at the University of Cambridge. She leads practice-changing breast radiotherapy trials, has influenced international hypofractionation policy and is addressing global health, gender and equity challenges. She led the Cambridge Breast intensity modulated radiotherapy Trial that provided evidence for simple breast IMRT as an international standard-of-care. She developed international emergency breast radiotherapy guidelines to safely reduce footfall during COVID-19 pandemic by bringing together international experts and negotiating release of unpublished breast hypofractionation protocols. She chairs the Lancet Breast Cancer Commission that addresses biomedical, gender, financial and social justice issues via a multidisciplinary expert team representing high and low-middle-income countries and includes patient-advocate commissioners to ensure a patient-centred approach.
