Bernadine Idowu is Professor of Biomedical Sciences at the University of West London. Her work on fibrous dysplasia, an under-researched tumour commonest in sub-Saharan Africa, was awarded the Roger Cotton Prize. In parallel with her science, she is a UK leader in EDI, addressing action plans from the Race Equality Charter Mark. Her passion extends to improving diversity in Biomedical Science, founding the "Black in Biomedical Science" undergraduate conference building the next generation of Black Biomedical researchers. Professor Idowu extends her work to struggling communities, and is the Founder of YACnCAY, a charity supporting education, especially STEM, for young black students. She is also Co-Chair of the MRC – Black in Biomedical Research Advisory Group overseeing initiatives addressing underrepresentation in Biomedical research.
