Andrew Horne, Professor of Gynaecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, is internationally respected for his ground-breaking studies in endometriosis and ectopic pregnancy. The studies he has led on ectopic pregnancy led to the identification of a novel diagnostic biomarker as well as mechanistic insights into the higher rates of ectopic pregnancy in women who smoke. He founded ‘EXPPECT’, bringing together patients, those involved in their care, discovery and data scientists, as well as industry partners, to accelerate innovation in treatments for endometriosis. He has been unstinting in his commitment to improving the experience of patients by engaging nationally and internationally with patient organisations and charities, and by contributing to the development of national and international guidelines.
