Professor Adrian Bird holds the Buchanan Chair of Genetics at the University of Edinburgh. In addition he is the Director of the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell Biology in Edinburgh and a Governor of the Wellcome Trust. Over a period of twenty five years he has made a series of seminal contributions to our understanding of DNA methylation and the medical and biological significance of this key form of DNA modification. He was awarded the Louis Jeantet Prize for Medicine in 1999.
