Rose McGready, Professor of Tropical Maternal and Child Health at the University of Oxford’s Shoklo Malaria Research Unit in Thailand, has transformed the health outcomes of pregnant women and infants in malaria affected areas.
She has directed the largest prospective cohort study of malaria in pregnancy leading to major changes in WHO recommendations for the prevention and treatment of the disease.
The impact of Professor McGready’s work has been to virtually eliminate malaria related maternal mortality in the Karen people of Thailand. Through her research she has improved the management of pregnancy in resource-poor settings and changed the lifetime outcomes of the numerous children born to affected mothers.
