Professor Richard Martin FMedSci
Richard Martin, Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Bristol, is amongst the UK’s foremost clinical epidemiologists, uniquely integrating discovery science with randomised trials to generate evidence that transforms national health policy and clinical practice. He leads the world’s largest prostate cancer screening trial, providing the only robust evidence comparing a low-intensity PSA-based strategy with no screening, uniquely designed to reduce overdiagnosis while seeking mortality benefit. He has shaped health policy, advising the UK National Screening Committee, USA Preventive Services Task Force, cancer charities, NIHR, and the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, collaboratively influencing prostate cancer screening recommendations globally, online patient-information resources, clinical guidelines, and parliamentary reviews.
