Rhian Touyz is Director of the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences at University of Glasgow. She is one of the world’s foremost clinician scientists in hypertension and vascular medicine performing translational research. Her major contributions have been in vascular biology of redox signalling and Nox enzymes and their potential as novel drugable targets. Her discoveries contributed to new therapeutic applications in hypertension and renal disease as well as a first- to-man clinical study in diabetic nephropathy. Professor Touyz’s work is internationally recognised as she is President of the International Society of Hypertension and past Chair of the Council for Hypertension of the American Heart Association.
