Professor Oliver Howes FMedSci

Oliver Howes, Professor of Molecular Psychiatry at King’s College London, is known for his advances in understanding and treatment of psychosis. He has made a major contribution to the neurobiological understanding of schizophrenia by identifying a sub-type of schizophrenia that does not show elevated dopamine synthesis. He demonstrated this sub-type shows elevated brain glutamate levels and linked this to treatment resistance to antipsychotics.|Professor Howes' work is highly translational and he has led the development of international guidelines for research and treatment, most recently leading the development of influential consensus guidelines for treatment resistant schizophrenia. |
