Michael Sternberg, Director of the Centre for Integrative Systems Biology and Bioinformatics at Imperial College London, is one of the founders of the field of bioinformatics. He has developed and disseminated several computational resources based on novel algorithms for the scientific and medical communities to model protein structure, function and genetic variation. Bioinformatics, machine learning and artificial intelligence will be playing an ever-increasing role in medical research and so the main aim of Professor Sternberg’s research group is to develop resources that are easy to use by the community who are not experts in structural bioinformatics. Through these resources, he has facilitated numerous studies by other groups.
