Liam Smeeth is Professor of Clinical Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is an internationally recognised research leader, undertaking ground-breaking research on drug effects, disease aetiology and the evaluation of interventions. He has made a number of important discoveries and his work on the MMR vaccine and autism was of central importance in demonstrating safety and led to a recovery in vaccine uptake. He has provided new evidence on the evolution of the non-communicable disease epidemic in low income countries, co-leading a new MRC funded international partnership across 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
